Legacy hosts 'Being Present' an exhibition at Glen Carlou Gallery

The exhibition Being Present explores the concept of making present which is absent through a series of responses and conversations between the works of deceased and practising artists. Bruce Arnott, Peter Clarke, Barend de Wet, Benon Lutaaya, Walter Meyer and Jurgen Schadeberg are paired in conversations with the likes of Willem Boshoff, Johann Louw, Chepape Makgato, Usen Obot, Lindeka Qampi and Manfred Zylla.

 

The exhibition is curated by Heidi Erdmann and this guided tour will be offered by gallery manager, Christa Swart.

The viewing of the exhibition will be followed by a Liquorice & Wine Tasting in which four Glen Carlou wines are paired with Lakrids by Bülow Liquorice.

 

Pairings consist of the following:

- Organic Mango Vanilla & The Collection Semillon

- Passion Fruit & Chardonnay

- Dark Sea Salt & Cabernet Sauvignon

- Salty Caramel & Grand Classique

Heidi Erdmann is an award-winning independent curator and published art historian who started her career in 1993. She developed an interest in contemporary African photography while working at the South African National Gallery (1994 -1997). She was the curator at AREA (1997 – 1999) an experimental space dedicated to lens-based media. AREA received a Business Art South Africa nomination for its roster of ground-breaking exhibitions. She founded The Photographers Gallery ZA in 2001 and the platform soon developed into an important launching space for South African practitioners. Many went on to enjoy international careers. In 2004 Erdmann expanded her focus and founded the multidisciplinary space Erdmann Contemporary. She internationalised her roster of exhibitions and added publishing and art fairs to the gallery’s programme. In 2021 she founded Legacy a curatorial agency specializing in Legacy and Heritage projects.
