Strauss & Co
Brickfield Road 35, 7925, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Founded in 2014 by Art Market Minds as an international events platform which creates in person conferences and digital events for the art world. Their flagship, The Art Business Conference hosts international art symposiums in Asia, Europe and America and for the first time in South Africa in 2023. It brings together several hundred participants around leading voices from inside and outside the art market.

The conference will be moderated by Riah Pryor, an investigative journalist specializing in the relationship between art and law. She previously worked at The Art Newspaper as Art Market Assistant Editor, and was a criminal researcher at New Scotland Yard's Art and Antiques Unit. Two panel discussions will delve into the following topics, “The Art of Collection Management” which will focus on caring for one’s art, preventing theft and identifying fakes and forgeries, and the second discussion, “The African Art Landscape - Dissolving Boundaries”, will explore the art of South Africa through its land - urban, rural, social and political – and the complex history of land and borders in Africa. Panellists for the first talk will include Gerhard de Kamper, Curator of UP Museum Collections, Dr Alastair Meredith of Strauss & Co, Gail Bosch, Head iTOO Artinsure, and Lee Burgers, Collection Manager at Zeitz MOCAA. The second talk will feature participants Camilla van Hoogstraten, Head of Sales at Latitudes Online, Kimberley Cunningham, independent art advisor and Charlotte Ashamu, Director of International Programmes at Yale University.
